Kaeto Sweeney; Daniel Mariblanca — OITF 2021, session 3–4
Bodily expressions
St. James's Church, Bergen; Virtual Space
Description

: ‘A warm meeting and First kiss before anything once (live)’
What: Kaeto’s works are shaped around the different ways stories (both personal and with societal perspectives) are told and received. He practices this interest within performance, film, and installation as part of an ongoing project called I seem to live. With the use of projectors and green screens as both technological and poetic devices, he questions beginnings/endings. First kiss before anything once is a story of a lonely boy longing to go dancing. Tonight, Kaeto will share not only this performance but also a conversation about our queer party ideology and common grounds of collaborations. Duration approximately 45–50 minutes. There are also be two special gifts made for the occasion: ↗︎ a text as well as the↗︎ Kiwi Captain shirt (gold embroidery and 5-frame screen print!!) available in limited edition at Black Box teater bookshop! And here, of course.

Above: The talk. Performance now gone. But enjoy snippets from the greatness, below.

: Performance extract of ↗︎ In First Person: The Dance and a ‘chat noir’
What: Daniel invites us to a talk about bodily expression and dance in a transgender perspective. We will get to know his company and the project ↗︎ In First Person — and lucky you: Daniel will perform, too! Expect honesty, perhaps nudity, and uncensored material — all in a very comfortable sphere. (But, there is nothing usual about this context: We will bring Daniel to ↗︎ the altar!!!) The conversation is between Daniel and Karmaklubb* organiser Tine Semb, and there will be room for answering questions (please DM us a bit in advance). Duration approximately 50–60 minutes. Will be hot, even though it is online. *** AND: During the talk we asked Daniel: “Why the mask?” [Since a mask has the potential to both, well, ‘mask’ but also ‘reveal’ through the layer it creates between the subject and surroundings] Post-conversation we got a message from Daniel saying: “I have the answer for your questions about the mask of In First Person: The Dance: [Instagram ↗︎ @transcendthebinary_ reposting quote by Alexander Leon @alexand_erleon:] ‘↗︎ Queer people don’t grow up as ourselves, we grow up playing a version of ourselves that sacrifices authenticity to minimise humiliation & prejudice. The massive task of our adult lives is to unpick which parts of ourselves are truly us & which parts we’ve created to protect us.’ These are not my words, but they perfectly explain the concept, reason, and reality of it.” Thank you. ***

Above: The whole thing. (Performance coming back, later.)

Above: Snippets from the greatness: Daniel!

Much love to the most eminent multitech anchor ; this would not have been possible without you! In addition to the festival crew we want to thank the eminent photographer for documenting, for bringing plants and the cockatoo as well as spreading good vibes, and the same (regarding vibes) goes for and Amelia Norin (NOR/PAK); thank you for taking part! Also, the ↗︎ church and in particular Thomas Nordvik provided not only additional tech and this extraordinary space, but the friendliest assistance and good mood (even two hours over due). Endnotes

Karmaklubb* is growing through collaboration and continuity as method. As some of you might have already notices, we are proudly taking part of ‘ 2021 — Online & At Home Edition!’, working with our dear friends at . A ‘series of bending encounters’, queerness and joy, some green paint, too. A group of glorious beings as gathered with us through five sessions over three nights – 16, 19, and 20 March. All very different yet they have in common a ‘queer eye’ on how the presence of our physical bodies is a highly political and liberating tool for challenging borders, repression, and language – to expand, renegotiate, and change the spaces and architectures we inhabit (IRL and virtually). Texts are being printed, and ↗︎ kiwi green artist’s edition T-shirts made for your pleasure. And besides the festival programme, written contributions are coming up as part of this collaboration during the next months. And so will a ‘house of joi (sic)’, hopefully this fall, when we can practice as we preach! House party in a church. A drag. *A PROPER BALL!* A celebration.

Oslo Internasjonale Teaterfestival has been the pulsing heart of the spring season since 2013. Daring and surprising, it has become an annual rendezvous for performing arts in Oslo in March. This year’s festival will be different than the previous ones. The preparation of Oslo Internasjonale Teaterfestival 2021 takes place in a very uncertain context – but one thing is for sure: The festival will happen! It will take another format and on a smaller scale. It is also subtitled ‘11 days of Live Art experiences’ to emphasize that it is not only theater in its traditional sense being shown, but a wide range of live arts, performances, installations, seminars, and talks. The festival will unfold in spaces that are still accessible, with site-specific and outdoor projects, new modes of sharing as well as a digital program. In this moment of forced isolation, we need more than ever to rely on the common, on co-construction and on trusting each other. Evolving around the question: “At present time, what do we need most?” this edition is conceived together with various contributors and guest curators, among them Karmaklubb*.
