As always there is a selection of curated nice liquids at Karmaklubb*. Once again, the amazing Grapeland has joined the team; a growing idealistic importer of natural wines, mostly from Eastern Europe, from carefully selected vineyards. Friendly prices for the occasion. So, if you prefer not to go for our own refreshing ale, the Karma* ale, this is definitely the recommendation for tonight!
‘Bela 2015’, Cotar, Kras, SVN; 11.8 % ABV; a sparkling orange! Eyes and nose: Pale warm yellow-ish. Slightly tropical candy (peaches?) Hints of watercolor kits (those in so-called primary colors from the 80s and 90s, often intended for kids). So far it may not sound too nice, but never get fooled by a newly opened bottle of natural wine. Often, it just needs some air. Tongue: Crisp and very fresh. Loads of small bubbles! Complex and rather schizophrenic nose-vs-taste, but still extremely well balanced with a lot of freshness, minerals, juiciness. There’s also something vaguely cured (ham?) … Dry aftertaste. Despite the ham — forget we ever mentioned it: This wine has a distinct elegance. Perfect for spring; by the sea; in the sun; by the table. Or, whenever. (This particular wine has been ‘the recommendation’ several times — it is truly special.) Grapes and soil: Malvasia and Vitovska, from red clay on top of limestone. Process: Ecologically made; skin contact for one week; spontaneously fermented; unfiltered; stored in neutral oak casks for up to 2 years.
Karma* ale on draft: ‘Ape’! Karmaklubb* & Grünerløkka Brygghus (Inga Greve); 3.7 % ABV; limited edition — ‘Ape’ is a fresh Saison hybrid with a handful of black pepper and orange peel added. Balanced with Pilsner malt. Lovely. Low percentage. Enjoy while dancing, sitting in the sun, or at one of the tables during a nice conversations with an old or becoming friend. Such as tonight. ‘Thought & pleasure’.
