Endnotes

↗︎ Oslo/Fusion International Film Festival (from now on called OF in this text) has become friends of Karmaklubb*. And for the occasion of our club nights and gatherings, we often run a compilation of video snippets that is hot, sexy, and full of love, curated by OF-EIC, Bard Yden. For the facts we can tell that OF was founded in 1990 (then called Homofilmklubben, later Skeive Filmer) and is Norway’s only film festival dedicated to stories of, by and for the LGBTQI+ community. Trusting film as a powerful medium that can entertain, educate and create change — all at the same time — OF looks for new perspectives and reflections in stories from our personal or shared lives, and human experiences; films that explore and celebrate diversity in identity, gender, cultural background, and sexuality, besides challenge norms and common perceptions in our global society. They do film screenings, panel discussions, and other related events. The regular venue is at the Norwegian Film Institute’s Cinemateket (Filmens Hus). This year’s edition runs from 25 September to 3 October at Cinemateket, Dronningens gate 16. It is an honour having them onboard — again!!

↗︎ Open Drag Stage are back, proudly presenting a pop-up show by three gorgeous beings: Elektra Puzzz, Eliza Fierce, and Novelty Starr! And what will they do? It will be a pleasant surprise — a gift — for you, our friends. All we know is that it will be hot when Elektra Puzzz enters the stage. Always charismatic and a diverse set of personalities up their sleeve — you never know exactly what to expect. After a longer state of COVID-hibernating, Eliza Fierce again unfold and emerge, ready to enchant (or bewitch) their audience with abstract, yet powerful and direct performance. And last: Novelty Starr is an internationally renowned Burlesque artist, naturally skilled to transform sweet fantasies to horror and back — just in a twitch, whenever they choose to do so! Since 2017 ODS has facilitated an open stage for drag and gathered Oslo’s drag artists in dazzling and varied shows at Elsker, Kulturhuset, Youngs Nede, Oslo Pride, Karmaklubb*, and more. Last time they entered the house of good karma* they created no less than euphoria. That was pre-corona, February 2020, with tight lip-sync, dance moves, and masks (who could have known …) — one of our best nights ever. We know this is not to be missed!!! We can also mention ODS will appear 19 September and 7 November at Kulturhuset, Oslo. Write down. *** We recommend you showing up early tonight — this will be something to remember!! *** Happening: Sometime between 19:30 and 23:45 CET. Perhaps twice.

↗︎ Jiska Huizing (NLD/NOR): This amazing individual is an artist, a musician, and, yes: a DJ. Currently based and working in Oslo, Norway. Jiska’s sets combine obscure club, influences of world music, and polyrhythms. Those who joined us at Dansens Hus last fall for sure knows …! Extremely danceable, eclectic, even sneaking in some queer Hip Hop samples. Also, it is worth mentioning our face muscles went sore that night — after hours of smiling. So perhaps it is a good idea to bring some face paint — just for fun — as well as a fresh set of clothing (although tonight = no dance floor, but you might get sweaty, after all …) Fun facts: Jiska has played at EKKO and the Borealis Festival, and besides doing her own sets she forms the DJ duo JIJU, with Julie Silset. Huizing also runs the record label ↗︎ Ideophone Records together with Rudi Valdersnes and Silset.
