MARICAS takeover: ‘Reflections around the impact of Covid-19 in our scene (Norway edition)’
Thought & pleasure
House of Maricas / Virtual space
Description

First part of the two-day Karmaklubb* takeover of the online platform of the glorious Barcelona based . For this talk Karmaklubb* has invited some of our beloved partners in Bergen, western Norway which we would have worked with at this moment and during spring making seminars, talks, clubs, and other events bringing people together — elements of what we consider as important creating an open feminist queer discourse and welcoming community building practice. We will touch upon the impact of the virus situation and how it has affected values and ways of working, but also why we do what we do, and how to keep the culture alive when we can not gather.

All members of the talk are from the visual arts, dance and performance, music, DJing and nightlife, as well as organisations working for equality and visibility — and/or ‘in between’ all of these sectors. We love hybridity. Until we can meet in real life: Please join us virtually. With (Bergen Kjøtt; golden jar), (ASTERISK), (Bergen Kunsthall, Landmark; Coda Press; Weekend Server), (Bergen Kunsthall, Landmark; golden jar), (Konsept X), and Karmaklubb* organizer . Endnotes

Our Barcelona based friends ↗︎ MARICAS was born in January 2018 due to several discussions about the lack of a local night-out that combined electronic music and the queer scene like the Techno rave community started with the help of the LGBTQ+ misfits of the 80s. ‘Our home is Barcelona, but we aim to take MARICAS all over the globe’, they say. In 2021 we hope to invite them to Oslo for a ‘Thought & pleasure’ event.

In 2020 they also established the online platform ↗︎ HOUSE OF MARICAS: The Art Of Staying At Home, a non-profit digital multiformat forum that aims to give visibility to queer artists and freelancers as well as creating content/tools for the LGBTIQ+ community, born during quarantine in Spain. They also run ↗︎ Maricas Records, a genre fluid label own by ↗︎ Eloisa Blitzer, ↗︎ ISAbella, and in-house design and code wizard ↗︎ Gina Guasch. The label is also represented by ↗︎ Bella Sarris. Their in-house design and code wizard is .

Karmaklubb* has collaborated with MARICAS since early 2020, a collaboration that was one of a few positive outcomes from the virus situation. It started with emailing, then a two-day virtual takeover, and we promise a lot more is going on.
