Car wash chat: ‘She can, SHE WILL!!’
Thought & pleasure
She Will / Virtual space
Description
  • ↗︎ Rose Royce, ↗︎ Car Wash. The song was written by Norman Whitfield and published September 1976 (!) on MCA Records. Learning history and such. Do not need much of an explanation. Besides, fun facts: ↗︎ Liv and ↗︎ Maren at She Will were born in the 70s (in 1976 and 1977, to be specific). Karma* is much younger, but true disco lives forever. Source: ↗︎ YouTube. You can find it on ↗︎ Spotify, too. Although the best would be the vinyl! Go to your local shop for vintage records.

A very comforting picnic with soft blankets and pieces of a former art installations to sit and lean on. ↗︎ Liv and ↗︎ Maren of brought the ‘queer wine’ of tonight, and we had coffee, some Eastern veggie food — all accompanied by fake candles (this candles were an exception; cannot do fake). The occasion: Our ongoing collaboration with She Will, this amazing artist driven hub in the suburbia of Ski, and the last days of the exhibition ‘↗︎ SQUEEZE’ feat. , , and . A 40 minutes’ chat on a project that has turned out rather magic, and continues doing so, and of course ‘how to avoid the squeeze’ = clever forms of plasticity as resistance. A bit like a plant that finds its way through asphalt cracks. Yes. Beware: This clip is in English, but raw and lo-tech and sounds a bit like ↗︎ Ragnhild’s washing machine due to the heavy (!) ventilation system. Not much to do about it. This is the skeleton of an actual petrol station, after all.

Endnotes

Four unpolished conversations on context sensibilities, frames an routines, and avoid being squeezed. Plasticity as a way of resistance. Listen and reflect with us. Medio September we will drop them, one after another, during the exhibition periode of ‘↗︎ SQUEEZE’ at one of our true favourite art spots: . First we met was , second , third , fourth rounding off with a ‘thought & pleasure’ session in the exhibition itself — at the petrol station in the central suburbia of Ski, inside the abandoned car wash — with Liv and Maren, the eminent founders. And a couple of bottles natural wine.

She Will is an art space and artist driven initiative that also houses studios, at Jernbaneveien 12 in Ski, Norway. Occupying a disused petrol station in the suburban town of Ski, the raw interior of the petrol station as a space to view contemporary art. The abandoned car wash is an occasional space for art events such as exhibitions and screenings. (And Karmaklubb* if it was not for COVID-19. We count on 2021.) Founded in 2018 by artists ↗︎ Liv Tandrevold Eriksen and ↗︎ Maren Dagny Juell. One of the coolest exhibition spaces and social initiatives we know of in the eastern part of Norway the last years. Although location ends in 2021. More on ↗︎ She Will here.

Queer wine
‘Pure & Naked 2019’, Weingut am Stein, Franken, GER; Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet blanc, half-and-half; 12.0 % ABV; hand-harvested, maceration for a short week, unfiltered and without sulfites; Pet Nat; pale yellow, foamy and creamy, definitely a nose of fresh pineapples and red apples, elegant minerals and dryness, the perfect number one today. Second: ‘Matassa Cuvée Marguerite 2019’, Domaine Matassa, Languedoc-Roussillon, FRA; 70 % Muscat blend and the rest 10 % Macabeo; 10.5 % ABV; hand-harvested from old vines, fermenting in large barrels and aging for 10 months on lees; pale orange (an orange wine), tropical delights with a lot of peach, apricot also, some rose, full-bodied, but very fresh with a delicate and pretty elegant ending outro.
