Personal favourites, obscurities included, for sure. Electronic soundscapes. Possibly surrounded by plants. — Ida Christine Stein & Naomi C. S. Moen — a two-headed monster looking very sweet. If you were lucky enough to catch them with Karmaklubb* at the ↗︎ Munch Museum late August, at Ingensteds last Oslo Pride, or at the ‘↗︎ House of Love!!!’ and ↗︎ Kulturhuset recently, then you know for sure this is not to be missed. Quick reminder: The Sandefjord duo blends dreamy synthesizers with playful percussion (even Russian 80s samples!) with harder electronic music; Techno, hardcore, 90s acidic stuff, breakbeats, house, even elements of trance. Eclectic, sometimes even challenging, but always surprising — joyful! — serving pleasures for body/mind. We must mention SYNK also runs TENK KLUBB (NOR) around the eastern part of Norway, besides playing at venues as Dattera til Hagen, Kurbadhagen, Oslo Camping, The Villa, and most recently: by:Larm 2020. And we know much more is coming up … This is the sixth time they enter the space of good karma*, unfortunately virtual, but still creating nice vibes (and a good view, too). And SYNK are sort of in residence this spring and summer (probably also 2021). We love.
Dear beloved friends of Karmaklubb*. We have started to telecommunicating live, in desperation and frustration, in lack of being able to do what we live for: gather people IRL. Operating on distance will never be our preferred method. It feels like putting on a dress when you do not want to. The neon claw cannot shine and paint the room green. Neither can we talk or dance together. Not kiss. But, over the next weeks, perhaps months (please, let us hope not!) a selection of ‘virtual smoke signals’ will take place: DJ sets, followed by concerts, sound productions, podcasts, talks, and more — hopefully making us both happier and smarter, ‘thought and pleasure’ — served by the most generous and trusted beings. A special thank you to Ida & Naomi aka SYNK for pushing this thing to happen in the first place by saying ‘we would love to support!’ — and for actually doing so. LOVE. More to come: Queerness, joy, and love. We still believe 2020 will be a good year. You can also ↗︎ read about the VSS here in ↗︎ MELK↗︎ ’s↗︎ ↗︎ online edition, in Norwegian.
For nerds
telecommunication (n.): 1932, from French “télécommunication” (see “tele-” [far, far off, operating over distance] + “communication” [act of communicating, act of imparting, discussing, debating, conferring]). Source: Online Etymology Dictionary. The icon of the lifebuoy — at SoundCloud and such — with light, smoke, and line is normally used as a nautical safety sign. Very symbolic, yes.
