Description

Pop-up Pride brunch with ‘queer bubbles’ [et cetera] and a special menu especially composed for us — all to friendly prices — at The Golden Chimp located where Tøyen and Grønland melts. Hot morning lounge by the amazing DJ Saronia. And for the wine, is it ‘to the moon and back … or, ‘dry and dusty’? (a nod to Fever Ray, too, that is.) Welcome to the second part of the Karmaklubb* ‘Pride × 3!!!’ At 12:45 we run down to the Parade! Let us hope for good weather! Vibes from the monkey year continues. * Girls and such. [Natural] wine + club. Thought & pleasure.

Heimdalsgata 37, Oslo. ID: No, except in the bar. CC: Free.

Endnotes

Today’s ‘queer wine’, curated for the occasion by Karmaklubb* & The Golden Chimp’s Tor Erik Bøe and Eivind Vallesverd

  • The one: ‘Jauma Blewitt Springs 2017’, Jauma, Adelaide Hills, AUS; 13 % ABV; Pet Nat — this is a lady that is confident, hot, has authority and stringent black framed glasses and a blazer that looks good all night. (Is this an art historian i the shape of a wine? Do you want to play a game, perhaps?) Some hints of sea, waves, as well as apples, nuts, and chalk, as well. So elegant, and slightly erotic and fun, too. Read further in the story below.
  • ‘Kalkspitz 2017’, Christoph Hoch, Kremstal AUT; 10.5 % ABV; Pet Nat
  • ‘Craven Pinot Gris 2017’, Jeanine & Mick Craven, Stellenbosch ZAF; 13 % ABV; red, but white — yes, strangeness in bottle. Tropical fruits, peach (!), but the tongue is not (!) sweet; this is a dry and well-balanced wine with just enough tannins. Some minerals, too, but luckily not taste of metal.
  • ‘Colfòndo 2016’, Casa Belfi, Veneto, ITA: 10.5 % ABV; Prosecco — yellow, unfiltered; small bubbles, elegant; from clay and chalky old seashells. A beachy one.
  • ‘Virevolte 2011’, Gaëlle Berriau, Loire, FRA; 12 ABV; white — deep orange, unfiltered; intensity from ripe fruit, but freshness and minerality in the end. Filled with chalk and clay! This is a ‘dry and dusty’ one (Fever Ray nod).
  • ‘Dakushu 2017’, Okura Honke, Nara, JPN; 7 % ABV; sake — yellow, full of creamy rice, looks like something that should not be mentioned; ‘You cannot talk about “queer wine” if you don’t dig in this!’ (quote Tor Erik); it is actually fresh, despite the mango and coconut hints; never tried something like this. Please do.
  • ‘Ine Mankai’, Mukai Shuzō, Kyoto, JPN; 14 ABV; red sake — light bodied, elegant, nice body; like silk, but not stiff. Sake at its best.
