Mottaket, W43: Karmaklubb* goes Ålesund!!
Thought & pleasure
Mottaket, Ålesund
Description

Karmaklubb* will inhabit Ålesund for 7 days in October. Besides moving our office to Mottaket, we will invite to conversations and presentations during these days — and hopefully contribute to a queer oriented focus uniting local as well as visiting forces. We will also be part of the Torsdagsscene’s programming, Thursday, 23 October at 19:00. Look for the green light.

Programme Torsdagsscene

19:00: Welcome! Mingle.

19:15: Presentation by Tine Semb on Karmaklubb* and ‘trojan horsing’. Lo-key and very open for questions. After a short break:

19:55: Special guest: Jens Martin Hartvedt Arvesen (Brødskive) on ↗︎ Abjectified Project (further reading below). Followed by a conversation Tine & Jens Martin + Q&A.

20:40: Feel free to stay and talk with us! There will be flowers and snacks (liquid and crispy).

Please note that times are approximate. The event is free! NB: Please contact us in advance if you are below the age of 18 (karmaklubb at protonmail dot com). Mottaket is ground level and accessible. Further reading: FB links: ↗︎ all week; ↗︎ Torsdagsscene. A fine article in BLIKK (Øyvind Rones, 17 October 2025) partly on the collaboration ↗︎ here. As a PDF here:

Endnotes

↗︎ Abjectified Project is a newly established drag art company based on a collective drag practice and abject art. Through Moving Identities, Åshild Livsdatter Løvvig Brinchmann ( / ), Peter David Ramthun ( ), Katinka Steensgaard ( ), Sofie Bøttger Bratberg ( ), and Jens Martin Hartvedt Arvesen ( ) will travel to Hammerfest, Norway with ; Cēsis, Latvia with , and Dresden, Germany with during fall 2025–26, spending ten days at each location, conducting research on individual and collective performance practices, abject art, and the project’s theme: ↗︎ the four humors. Tine Semb from Karmaklubb* is the project coordinator.

The 3-year residency programme ↗︎ Moving Identities (throughout May 2026) offers a European network of residencies and organisations who wish to open a new world for performing artists to play within. The focus is European identities today, and the dream is to connect performing artists, venues, and organisations across borders in an inclusive and eco-friendly way. Co-funded by ↗︎ Creative EU .

↗︎ Jens Martin Hartvedt Arvesen aka (b. 1991) has worked with several different art media, mostly with drag, dance, and DJing, since 2013. Jens Martin now works freelance as a performance artist and project initiator. They are an educated dancer (Jazz Dance, a Master’s degree in Dance and practical-pedagogical education) from Oslo National Academy of the Arts (KHiO). They have been focused on creating spaces for queer performance art, and raising awareness, and articulating with words, underrepresented aesthetics in queer tradition through teaching and exemplification. They linked the term ‘abject’ with Drag’s use of ‘filth’ in the drag performance seminar Becoming the Abject in 2020. Recently, contemporary romantic ideals have increasingly infiltrated their art, while they have shifted focus from production and facilitation to creation and process. Jens Martin wishes to move towards creating art that to the greatest extent possible consists of homemade material, and is currently working in a landscape consisting of movement, text, visual media and performative presence. Current artistic collaborations include , Karmaklubb*, ↗︎ Oslo Drag Festival, and ↗︎ QCC — Queer Community Club. They are also continuously expanding and researching knowledge about Drag through teaching and artistic research, through concepts like Draglaboratoriet and Oslo Drag Festival, and at faculties like Arbeiderbevegelsens Folkehøgskole, Buskerud Folkehøgskole, OsloMet, and Høyskolen Kristiania, as well as through workshops at smaller events.
